What I Like About the Pat McGrath Labs Dramatique Lip Pencil

As someone with a dry skin type, I tend to gravitate toward lightweight and breathable makeup products that don’t feel too cakey or heavy on my skin. I’ll opt for a putty primer over a liquid one, a skin tint over a proper foundation, and in this case, a lip pencil instead of a traditional lipstick.

Unlike other lip pencils, this Dramatique Lip Pencil from Pat McGrath Labs boasts a surprisingly creamy consistency that goes on smooth and delivers a nourishing layer to my lips. It’s marketed as a matte lip color, but the pencil feels much lighter — almost more like a lip crayon. I love the product’s simple application and bright, orange-red tint, which not only contrasts beautifully against any skin tone but is timeless enough to be worn in a variety of seasons and settings.

How to Use the Pat McGrath Labs Dramatique Lip Pencil

This lip pencil is super easy to use, regardless of whether you’re hoping to achieve a bold red lip or a blurred version. Because Swift’s red lips are such a focal point of her beauty aesthetic — and tend to look super saturated and bright — I typically opt for a more statement style. To start, I’ll prep my lips with a gentle exfoliant to ensure any dead skin is removed and that my lips are as smooth as possible. I’ll then remove the lip pencil’s cap, sharpen the tip (if needed), and begin filling in my lips with the pencil.

I like to outline my lips with the pencil, starting with the corners of my mouth and then slowly working my way around my cupid’s bow and lower lip. If I want a more defined look, I might layer a little extra coloring onto the upper and lower corners of my lips. I’ll then purse my lips together to spread the color around and fill in any remaining gaps with the pencil from there.

What to Consider Before Trying the Pat McGrath Labs Dramatique Lip Pencil

As someone who has worn Pat McGrath lipsticks for years, I can confirm: this lip pencil is not nearly as smudge-proof as the red lipstick loved by Swift. While the product does provide long-lasting, all-day color that stays on my lips well, it’s not quite as immune to transfer as the Legendary Wear Matte Lipstick; if I rub my finger over my lips, I’ll see a slight reddish hue left on my skin after the fact. And if I drink a cup of coffee, my glass will retain a muted (but still noticeable) red-lip shadow afterward.

Lip liners are typically much creamier than lipsticks (and therefore less matte), so this doesn’t surprise to me. And despite it being slightly more smudge-prone than its lipstick counterpart, I still feel comfortable wearing the Dramatique Lip Pencil all day, even while I’m eating, drinking, or talking. That being said, if you’re looking for something that can withstand contact (including makeout sessions), I’d recommend opting for another red lip product and saving this option for casual everyday wear.

When it comes to blush, I think the more, the better. I can’t help it — I love the stuff. My fair skin just looks better with a bit — OK, a lot — of warmth. I’m constantly drooling over celebrity beauty looks that feature rosy cheeks, like that of Sabrina Carpenter and Tessa Thompson.

One of my go-to blushes (and there are a lot of them) is from Fenty Beauty, specifically the Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream Blush. It has decent staying power but to make it really last, I apply a complementary blush on top. So, when I found out Rihanna was launching a new cream-and-powder-in-one blush formula that’s long-wearing and waterproof, I jumped at the chance to try Fenty Cheeks Suede Powder Blush ($28) before anyone else. Plus, I got the scoop from Fenty Beauty’s new artistry ambassador, Pauly Blanch, to learn what makes it so special. Keep reading ahead for my full review.

What I Like About Fenty Cheeks Suede Powder Blush

My biggest complaint about powder blush is that they’re hard to blend and I prefer a swipe and go situation. There’s just not enough time in the morning to fight with patchy pigment. Fortunately, Fenty Cheeks Suede Powder Blush is almost as easy to blend as a cream. The satin formula diffuses on the skin beautifully with the new Blush Brush 155 (as well as an old Real Techniques fluffy brush I grabbed at home).

Another reason I don’t love typical powder blush is they tend to look chalky on my dry skin. They also show every imperfection. Cream products tend to work best on my almost 40-year-old skin because they don’t settle into fine lines. Fenty Cheeks Suede Powder Blush didn’t either, thanks to ingredients including dimethicone, a silicon-based polymer that smooths over bumps and pores, and silica, which provides a super-silky feel. There’s also magnolia bark extract that has the anti-inflammatory properties to reduce redness and irritation, making it a great choice for those with sensitive or acne-prone skin — both of which I also deal with.

But even after being impressed with the silky formula and pretty color payoff, my favorite thing about Fenty Cheeks Suede Powder Blush is the staying power. Blanch agrees. “I’m a big cream user, but sometimes with creams, they sink into the skin and you lose some of that punchiness,” he tells PS. ” So having this powder is really great to amplify the look.”

I first applied Fenty Cheeks Suede Powder Blush in Lolly Polly (a vibrant coral) around 9 a.m., sat under some bright lights, then walked around Los Angeles when the temperature hit around 100, went home, took a nap, and woke up still wearing enough blush to not have to reapply. The brand says the formula is not only sweat-resistant but also waterproof. While I didn’t jump in the pool, I did sweat enough to put it to the test and it got an A.

How to Use Fenty Cheeks Suede Powder Blush

A little goes a long way with this formula, so be careful when going too heavy into the pan. “I like starting with a little patting motions so not picking up too much product,” Blanch says. “[You] can also do a little tap if there’s too much on the end.” Then, for that Rihanna-favorite, snatched blush look, he likes to “start on the outside of the eye from the high point of the cheekbone, not too front-forward.” Then, he blurs it out to give the face a lift. “I start with tiny little sweeping motions just above the contour line,” he says. “I don’t use a lot of product but you get payoff really quickly. And then whatever is left on the brush I just continue to blend it through and really blur out those edges.” He finishes with sweeping motions.

“This is your first application, which you really want to make your base color almost. It’s the one that blends out onto your skin. I also like to bring a little bit above the eyebrow and on the nose — always.”

To add a little more, you can simply build up where you want it. With this layering technique, “it won’t look so specifically put just one spot.” Blanch says. “It makes it easier to blend out.”

Because Fenty Cheeks Suede Powder Blush has serious pigment, it’s easy to apply too much and panic trying to remove it, getting blush all over your face. Blanch has an easy trick for toning down the look without messing up your hard work. “If you use too much, get your foundation brush that you were using prior and press it on the outside rim of the blush,” he says. “That will diffuse the area.”

Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer Plus Review

When I think about beauty tools that have gone viral, the first product that comes to mind is Revlon’s One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer. Not only does it have more than 360,000 five-star reviews on Amazon, but I honestly can’t scroll my TikTok feed without seeing at least one person using this fan-favorite blow-dryer brush. It’s easy to see why: not only is it affordable, but it’s helped countless people achieve salon-worthy blowouts from the comfort of their own homes. Although this product has amassed what can only be described as a cult following, users still had suggestions for improvement. Revlon’s response? The One-Step Volumizer Plus ($37, originally $70).

I tried out the older version of Revlon’s blow-dryer brush, but the brush head was a little too big for me and made it difficult to nail down my go-to style. Also, I didn’t love the heat settings because it felt like the high heat was too much for my hair, but the low setting was too low to set the style I was looking to achieve. In the end, it left my hair feeling a little dry and dehydrated, so I opted to use a different tool for my at-home blowouts.

However, my best friend uses the older version and swears by it, so when I heard about the improvements and the smaller brush attachment on the newest version, I decided it was time to give the blow-dry brush a second chance. After I started seeing glowing reviews for the newer version on TikTok I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. When I received it in the mail, I eagerly awaited wash day so I could finally test it out — spoiler alert, it was everything I wanted and more.

The most recent tool has ceramic-titanium tourmaline technology, which helps reduce heat damage and protect hair against it.
It has low, medium, high, and cool heat settings for easy customization. (The previous version only had low, high, and cool.)

What I Like About the Revlon Revlon One-Step Volumizer Plus

The biggest difference I noticed between this brush and others I’ve used in the past is how well my hairstyle stayed put. Although I think I’ve pretty much mastered the ’90s blowout, I’ve often found that the look can fall throughout the day if I don’t use a ton of hairspray or texture spray. I didn’t use either after the Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer, and my flipped-in ends lasted even after a night of sleeping on them.

While my hair sometimes felt dry when using the older version of this blow-dryer brush, my experience with the newer version was the opposite: it was smooth and shiny.

How to Use the Revlon One-Step Volumizer Plus

When wash day finally arrived, I prepped my damp, clean hair with a leave-in conditioner, hair oil, and a heat protectant. I then waited until my hair was about 85 percent dry, and I separated it into sections. I started out by running the brush through my ends, then curled and flipped the hair under. I repeated those steps for the middle and top sections, and in the end, I was left with a perfect blowout.

What to Consider Before Trying the Revlon One-Step Volumizer Plus

My only wish is that this tool had an option for different attachments, but with the detachable head as a brand-new feature, who knows what Revlon has in store for the future. Still, if you’re looking for an affordable way to achieve a salon-worthy blowout without ever stepping foot outside of your house, either add Revlon’s One-Step Hair Dryer to your cart or add it to your wish list ASAP.
